Do not expect too much from a gold party

You need to know what a karat is. Gold is a soft metal so it must be combined with other metals for durability. Each karat, which is 1/24 pure gold, tells you how much gold is in the alloy compared to other metals. A piece that has less than 10 karats cannot legally be called gold.

The price of gold changes often so you need to know the value of your gold before attempting to sell it. If you decide to sell your gold, pieces with different karat values should be weighed and valued separately. Avoid selling jewelry that is worth more because of the designer or maker.

Know what gold is currently selling for. While it’s convenient to just bring your gold to a shop, do a little internet research first to see what the range is. That way, you can go in knowing how much you can expect to receive. You will know if you are being lowballed.

When going to sell your gold, bring along identification. If you come to an agreement on the sale of the pieces, you will be required to give the buyers a copy of your government issued id. This is a law meant to protect individuals against buying pieces that are stolen, and any reputable dealer will stand by this law.

Do not expect too much from a gold party. While you will make some money by attending, they are more about having fun with friends or family. Expect to reap about 80 percent of the actual value of your gold. If you are looking to get more than that, consider dealing with a jeweler or other gold dealer.

When you go to sell your gold, make sure your expectations are not too high and bring your government-issued identification. On average, gold dealers pay between 70 and 80 percent of the actual value. The law requires that dealers ask sellers for identification when buying gold to aid police in their investigations about stolen property.

When you are thinking about buying gold, consider the person you are buying it from since there is a big difference. Making a purchase from a telemarketer is something that should be avoided at all costs. This is because the high commission they charge makes the transaction not worth it.

Before finalizing your gold sale, get the entire thing down in writing. Later on, if there’s any sort of problems related to the sale, you’ll need this signed written document at the ready to prove your case. If you don’t have it, you may find that proving any sort of fraud will be nearly impossible.

When searching for jewelry, you will probably want to know how many karats a particular piece has. The hallmark on a piece of jewelry will provide you with this information. For instance, say you purchase a ring that is 14 karat gold, the hallmark will say “14k”. The hallmark can be found on the inside of each piece.

Before going to sell your jewelry, investigate what the current market price of gold is. That will help you determine whether or not a dealer is actually offering you a good price for your pieces. Most dealers will give you the market value, but some will rely on the fact that people just want cash to try and get the best deal for possible for themselves.
